BSU.....Top 5 or not.

Again, this goes to the issue of preseason rankings.  While I am one who has great respect for BSU's program and what they've accomplished over such a short period of time, it's frustrating to see them ranked in the top 5 in just about every preseason poll out there.  Now, this doesn't mean I feal the same about other teams deserving their preseason ranking simply goes to the issue of not knowing how good these teams are going to fair.  As pointed out the idea behind this blog is CFB's legitimacy, now, and in the future.  IMO polls should not be released until the 4th or 5th wk at least, so there is some idea as to whether a team deserves the ranking they are being 'gifted' at this point.  Your thoughts.

BSU.....Top 5 or not.

For years, Boise was ignored by the pollsters until late in the season, when their record demanded inclusion.  But when the team is there with an undefeated or one loss record, year after year, it gets harder and harder to ignore.

I agree, it's silly that history counts for more than the present in these polls, and the worst thing that the team can do is to start believing the prognosticators.  Just as soon as one starts believing one's press clippings is about the time that you are going to fall...hard.

Frankly, I liked it better when Boise was the little engine that could, not the established bully on the block.

BSU.....Top 5 or not.

Hey, cougs! It is what it is guess. Sounds vague, but so it goes. With Boise, if we lose to VT, we drop 10 places, easy. If Florida loses to Alabama they may drop 2 or 3 places. I guess that's where the "legitimacy" and SOS come in. I've always been a proponent of a playoff system and still think it is the best way to determine an NC. That way if a middie were to somehow survive 3 straight playoff games against AQ conference schools. it would most definately legitimize "them" as a National Champ1

BSU.....Top 5 or not.

In essense, my frustration with Boise is, what happens if another non-BCS team that isn't ranked as high in the preseason has just as good a record, SOS, etc....this is not equitable.  I'm not saying it's BSU's fault, anymore than it's BSU's fault they're in the WAC this year....again, my point is legitmacy....teams ranked high in the SEC, just because they're in the SEC and have been pretty good in recent years, they are automatically 'gifted' a high ranking, which gives them an advantage over those that don't start so high.
